*Most home loan applications are paid for by lenders via commission, disclosed in your Credit Quote. Some specialist or commercial scenarios may attract a fee — we'll always be upfront about cost before any work begins.
Our job isn't to chase the lowest headline rate. It's to find the loan that genuinely fits your situation today, and still works in five years' time.— The Legacy team
Answers, in plain English.
Does it cost anything to use a mortgage broker?
For most standard home loans, our service is paid for by the lender at settlement via a commission, which is fully disclosed in your Credit Quote and Credit Proposal. You can see exactly how we're paid before you commit to anything. Some complex commercial or specialist scenarios may attract a fee — we'll let you know up front if that applies.
How is a broker different from going directly to my bank?
Your bank can only offer their own products. As a broker on the Connective lender panel, we can compare loans across 70+ lenders — including major banks, mutuals and specialist providers — and recommend an option that fits your specific goals and circumstances. Banks aren't required to act in your best interests; under Australian law, mortgage brokers are.
I'm self-employed — can you still help?
Yes. Self-employed borrowers are one of our core areas. Different lenders take very different views of business income, ABN age, BAS statements and add-backs. We'll help you find the lenders likely to look at your situation favourably, and structure your application to give it the best chance.
Do you only work with people in inner Melbourne?
We're based in Richmond and most of our clients are around the inner suburbs — Richmond, Fitzroy, Collingwood, Kew, Hawthorn, South Yarra and surrounding areas — but we work with clients right across Melbourne and elsewhere in Australia. We can meet in person locally or by phone and video.
